Help on a Mark II trigger - please

I bought my first Mark II - a 22-250- the trigger was 5.5lb and quite a bit of sear engagement. I cut a little of the trigger return spring and got it down to 4.5 lb - any more and it would become unreliable. I'm used to a 2.5lb to 3 lb crisp trigger on my hunting rifles, on the lower end on my varmint rifles.
I see some trigger kits on Brownell's for well over $100, which seems a little steep - or is it?
I don't want to polish the sear or trigger surfaces too much...

What do you guys recommend? Thanks.

Are you asking about a Mauser M98, or perhaps a 1914 or 1917 Enfield, and the Dayton-Traister Mark II trigger?

If you are speaking of the Ruger 77 Mark II rifle, I have two of them and installed Timney triggers in both of them. Minor fitment involved, but now both triggers are 3.5 lbs. and crisp...no creep.

Put a Timney in mine. Easy to install and makes quite a difference.

I had one in 22-250 that I let my wife use to kill a big buck. After her excitement died down, she said " I want my Sako back; I kept waiting for it to fire." I didn't want to spend money on it so I sent it packing. It had a 6 lb pull.

I used this to do a 77mkII SS .223 and it came out at around 3 to 3.5 lb's . On my .308 I just polished it and it is about 5 lb's but it feels like it is less.
We go through life trying to make the best decisions we can based on the best infomation we can find, that turns out to be wrong.

    Dayton-Traister get's my vote.....have done many & they work great. For price/quality I would give an A.
