    Cast boolits in micro groove

    Hello All

I new to this forum and haven't spent a lot of time lurking around in the shadows either. But looks like a lot of good information to be found here. This question has probably been asked a hundred times already so please forgive my ignorance. Can cast boolits be shot in a Marlin with micro grooving? I'm interested in the 1894 38 357.
    Thanks
    Warren

    First, welcome to the forum!

The short answer is "yes". However, if you plan to push them very hard, a gas check makes it soooo much easier!

Be sure to slug the barrel and size at least .001" over.

I would never shoot cast bullets in a Micro Groove Marlin

Oh I almost forgot I have 22 different Marlin rifles with Micro Groove barrels and the ONLY thing I shoot in them are CAST BULLETS !

Thanks for the quick replies. After I posted the question I went to Marlin's web site. They said the 1894 38 357 have 6 groove rifling so I guess it won't be a issue either way. I do have a 35 Rem 336, I've shot a few 158 swc out of. Your answers make me feel a lot better about it now.
    Thanks

While my focus is Marlins in the pre Microgroove period, I have several with Micro grooves in .357 (yep an early one), 45-70, and 30-30... All shoot cast with precision, so long as the size is right, gas checked boolits are used, and they're HARD, 20+.

no problem shooting a cast boolit in a microgrooved barrel. you MAY need to size them more than .001" larger than the bore however. my 30-30 shoots much better, and NO leading when sized at .311" instead of .309".
