    Strange recovered PPCBoos

Something curious. I measured the hardness along the length of this boolit, patched it and fired it in my two-groove which is known to cut through the patch on the thrust face of the lands.

What we are seeing here is a boolit that was seated in 'waxy-lube' with a small quantity of wax around the case mouth rim. It just so happens that this particulae boolit had harder and softer zones on it and right where the wax 'ring' was located was a soft zone. The wax ring impressed into the boolit and the front section of the boolit exerted a torque across the soft spot and actually twisted the boolit at that point. The shear line is visible. See how the patch cut through forward of the shear line.

Here is one with flame cutting mid-way down its length.

The flame cut eroded out an existing fold flaw on the boolit surface. I can only imaging the groove in the boolit directed leaking gases from around the whole of the base shank into that fold.

Here is another set of boolits from a different batch to the first.

Note upset on first boolit at neck/throat gap.

This time, two different powders were used. The first being 6gr AS30 (similar to Blue Dot) and the second two being 6gr and 10gr of Lil'Gun. Boolit weight was 262.5gr. The 6gr AS30 and 10gr Lil'Gun loads produced similar max pressure but higher velocity with Lil'Gun. The patch remnants from the first two boolits were much larger and did not completely come off the boolit. The last one did.

    ?????

What in the world are you using for casting material?? Doesn't look like any lead or alloy combo I've ever seen!!

    ?????????????
