Went to the range today and took some of my Enfields, my mate Joe took some pictures and did the post. Thanks Joe.

"Our club held a shoot at 6a Cowpark, Wathgill range today. I had the opportunity to photograph some of Dromia's Enfields.

He is a jammy bastid having so much nice kit!

Looks like a fun time. Please explain the complex side mounted sight
on the one SMLE to an ignorant Yank. Is this the volley sight I've heard of or
some sort of rifle grenade sight? Interesting sidefolder AK, never saw that
type of stock and folder before. Also a very nice target peepight one the other
SMLE, really solid looking, any info about that one?

Certainly a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow, too.

    Where exactly are you?

    Bill
If it was easy, anybody could do it.

I'm assuming in the first question that you are referring to the sight on the Long Lee Metford (Made by LSA, London Small Arms) in the first two pictures. Its a long range target peep sight for Match Rifle shooting. It fits onto where the rear peep of the volley sight goes. It is folded down out of the way as I am shooting at 300yrds and this sight is for 300yrds plus. I was using cast in this a Lyman 311290 boolit from a NEI cut mould over 19 gns of VVN110.

The second rifle pictures 3 and 4 is a Fulton regulated BSA No1 Mk111 (Cut off and MK111 wood no Volley sights fitted) regulated for Service Rifle "a" and "b" competions, it is cork bedded and note the extra fore end band fitted. The PH 5A rear sight has a quick removeable peepshaft feature for staorage and shooting "a".

The 5th photograph is of an early (1913) BSA Short Magazine Lee Enfield (No1 Mk111). You can clearly see the volley sights on this one. The dial foresight is visible on the side of the fore end just forward of the leaf sight, the folded down rear peep is on the rear of the reciever above the trigger wher the reciever meets the wood. You can clearly see the rear peep cut out in the wood in picture two of the Long Lee as the rear peep has to be removed to fit the long range peep sight.

The little black pop gun is a Saiga AK copy single shot in 5.56 NATO.

Jack the MN is an interesting one as it was made for the French. Both these guns are Joes

The range is in Catterick, North Yorskire part of the big miltary range, training and barracks complex there. All new recriuts to the British Army do ther 6 weeks basic at the ITC there.

Its a 40 mile drive there and usually we shoot there on varying ranges 3-4 times a month. With the high unemployemnt due to the recession recruitment is high at the moment so there is a lot of pressure on the ranges and some of our bookings are being cancelled.
