ruger new vaquero bullet

Hello fellow casters,being new to this site and an avid caster,does anybody have some info about a ruger vaqero bullit casting mold. I have a .45lc and cast strictly WW. I only plink around using mild loads and don't hunt. I'm looking for bullet weights between 250 and 275grs. Any suggestions? Thanx

I have a New Model .45 Colt convertible which I feed Lee 255 GR WFNL boolits. It is a six banger and when properly heated up and prepared {see below} it really kicks out some nice boolits.

Every Lee 6 banger needs leementing. There is plenty of info on this site about that but I also use Bullshops Bullplate Sprue Lube. It is great stuff. Ya cast a few boolits and after about the 5th cast ya leave the boolits in the mold and take a q tip and dip it into the lube and spread it around the top of the mold and the underside of the sprue plate and along the hinge screws, alighnment pins etc. Then you take the clean end of the q tip and wipe off all the lube. Empty the mold and refill and you are good to go.

This stuff allows you to cast really faster and prevents the build up of any lead on the sprue plate or top of the mold. I cast wcww's and I dump soft boolits into the water. It works ok on these fat boolits but on long rifle boolits I have to wait until the sprue cools a mite more.

I load with trail boss and I get excellent results with this big old fat boolit. You can load up or down to suit your taste and uses and properly lubed will get no leading at all.

Look at Lee's 452-255 RF. I have one, but the boolit nose is not as blunt as shown in the picture.

I bought it to use in a S&W .455 Second Model Hand Ejector, but I need at least a .457" boollit -- which I'm working on. However, the boolit really shines in my .45 ACP Randall.

For just plinkin' around, I would go with one of the RNFP 200 grainers that the cowboy shooters use.
There's a lot to be said for saving lead and powder these days.

Keith style, get in on one of the group buys now from Mihec or Swede.
I also shoot the HG68 group buy clone which is the veteran 45acp target mold. Shoots good in the 45 Colts

I cast the Lyman 454190 RF and the 452664 for my Ruger New Vaquero 45 colt. I had the bevel base removed from the 452664 mould and it casts great. I like the single lube groove on the 664 also but the two lube grooves on the 454190 is not a deal breaker. Both shoot well over 8 grs. of Unique.

RCBS 45-270-SAA cast up about 280 grains and is a good design for a heavy plinker.

thanks for all the great replies! This might sound dumb but here I go. Some of these molds cast at .452-.454 or larger. My rcbs sizer is .452. Will the larger bullet actually be sized to .452 with no problems

I have shot a good deal of the Lyman 452664 bullets in my Bisley Vaquero with both black and smokeless. I have won a few matches, also. It has a single grease groove that is large enough to hold sufficient black powder lube and that also works with smokeless.

I cast 30/1 lead/tin for black powder and WW's + 2% tin for smokeless. I size at .452".

This bullet is available in a four cavity iron mould. Midway has them for about $80.00 or so.

The Keith bullets also work well but are not "period correct" for those that care. The 452664, on the other hand, while sporting a larger meplat than the original .45 Colt bullet still looks traditional but the meplat is large enough to work for game, also.
