Shot a .50-90 "Big Fifty" today for the first time. It hurt more than I expected.

I shot my late father's Sharps .50-90 today out at my ranch. He had the rifle built by the Classic Rifle Company in Bend, OR for his 80's Africa trip. He wanted to shoot an elephant with a Sharps rifle for some reason.

He did end up taking an elephant with the rifle...

I took it out of a safe today and cleaned and inspected it, then found some ammo he had for it, and brought it out to his 10 acre ranch that I now own, and shot it.

I created a video of the experience. Hope you enjoy it...

I used to shoot my 50/90 with a 'Paul Jones' 650gn boolit and 105gn of Swiss FG. Had to sell it on doctors orders after I had my heart pacemaker fitted. Kicked like a mule!

That's a beautiful rifle congrats. The big fifty has some punch for sure. Those double set triggers are adjusted by the small screw that is inside the trigger guard. you don't have to use the set feature and can ignore it until you become a little more familiar with the rifle. do you have any idea what the loading in your ammunition is?

You mentioned in the video you weren't sure of the powder, it's written right there, 1F Swiss!

Your father had a very nice rifle, and I'm sure you'll treasure it. Great video!

make yourself a standing bench - kick will seem a lot less when your upper body can move a bit - or shoot offhand

Biggest I go is a 50 95. It's an express round with a 300gr bullet. That's about as much recoil as I care for. I got rid of my 45 70's because of recoil. Just no fun getting beat up anymore.

50/95 is a kicker on both ends! I love it!
