    32-20 WCF Range Report

Dodging rain showers, got to finally shoot my test loads for the S&W 1905 3rd change 4”. These were powder coated with Smoke’s Flame Red and the bullet was from Accurates clone of the original 311316 whereby I had Tom remove all the lube rings.
Powder was 231, primers CCI500, brass Starline. COAL is 1.555”.
All loads were shot at 10-12 yards.

The 32-20 is one of my favorites. Don't have anything of that vintage in a handgun, it's more Marlin and Winchester levers and a Contender here. Five shot groups? I'm likin' the 3.2 and 3.3's

I gotta say, it sounded almost sacrilegious when you talked about shooting those modern redesigned powder coat bullets in the venerable 32-20. I felt myself starting to throw up in my mouth. The cartridge is 150 years old, after all!

BUUUUT, it appears that you have a winner there notwithstanding. I’ll be curious to read how this combo does as you, the load, and the gun get to know each other better. I doubt I’ll ever go to PC bullets in 32-20, but inquiring minds...

I love the 115gr Ranch Dog from Arsenal Molds in my Ruger and Marlin 32-20s. Both being modern guns, my favorite powder is AA #9.

    Thanks Froggie.
I’ve read and read and read about the 32-20 here, every aspect. Reloading had some challenges, but I only crumpled one of the first five test rounds loaded! I learned You gotta go sloooow. RCBS Cowboy and Lee FCD.
