    Lyman 450/4500 and RCBS Lube-A-Matic

Will the 450/4500 handle the hardest casts or does the RCBS press do better ?

they are virtually the same lubrisizer. lyman- rcbs.
i have a 45 and two 450's, kind of prefer the older 45 for hard cast, both work well with no issues.
it really depends on how far down you are sizing the boolit from cast.

the RCBS look like it has more leverage, a couple a thou sizing hard cast. The 45's Longer handle and design like the Lube-A Matic's. Ya I agree about the 45 over the 450 for harder casts. Weird how from the 45 to the 450 back to the 4500... long handle, short bent handle back to the long handle.

With the 45.... You buy a tub of lube I take it ? And the newer dies and top punches fit them ?

The 45, like the Universal before it and the 450 after, is designed to take the standard hollow lube sticks that have been made alike for well over a century. As for dies and top punches, the method of securing them in the press has changed over the years, but the newest dies can be used in the oldest presses. The reverse does not always hold true however.

why do you prefer the 45 for hard cast?

I just bought a 450, the newer one. Just curious how much of a hassle it is to clean it out.

what I did was extend the length of the handle = better mechanical advantage = less effort needed

I used a section of pipe that would fit over the handle and it's held on with wire running around the body of the machine
