    Cimmeron Arms Quigley question

What diameter and weight bullet is ideal for the Cimmeron Arms Quigley 45/120 rifle manufactured by Pedersoli I believe. Using BP of course. Need to get a boolit mold for it.

    Any of these would do!

    L to R 545gn PGT, 520gn custom, Lyman tapered 495gn, Pedersoli Spire point 500gn & Hensley & Gibbs 420gn. All cast at 0.460"

#4 is similar to a lee 500gr 3r; carries enough lube; shoots very good in my roller, out to 1000yds+, 30" tube, pure lead at 1200 FPS, cast at .460 / .461 diameter...........

If Pedersoli made the barrel, slugging the bore is useless because they have a system of progressive depth rifling. Imparting a 1.5 thou taper from chamber to muzzle. I own a number of "Ped" rifles including Sharps 45/70, 45/90, 50/70 and 1886 45/70 and taken many chamber and muzzle casts to confirm. Slugging will only tell you the smallest (muzzle) bore measurement and not the chamber throat which is what counts.

Watch the Youtube video to see what I mean. The Hensley & Gibbs boolit ( casts 0.460") on the RHS has proven the most accurate at shorter ranges in many different 45/70's and including a BFR revolver.

    BAW,

Thank you for that information. I have two Pedersoli Rolling Blocks. I will use that information.

Knowledge I take to my grave is wasted.

I prefer to use cartridges born before I was.

Success doesn't make me happy, being happy is what allows me to be successful.

My Pedersoli 1886 45/70 also has the tapered rifling 'target' barrel.
