Next Generation Squad Weapon XM7 rifle and the XM250 automatic

The current status of the Armies Next Generation Squad Weapon XM7 rifle and the XM250 automatic rifle. It's too long to cut and paste. No politics please. If you want that start a thread in the pit.

So why does it have both an M-16 type charging handle and a left side charging handle? Makes no sense to me.

Twenty round mags are ok, although I highly doubt there will be excess space on a soldier's web gear.

Just a guess but it maintains being ambidextrous for lefties.

I did not read this article, but in another I read where individual round count carried will be lowered by about 90 rounds O do not remember the exact number and the squad weapon will drop from 600 to 400 rounds carried. I don't see that as a good thing. It is however something that can be dealt with at a later time.

Yes. 140 from 210, 400 from 600. Better not spray and pray.

With the 13.5" barrel and 135 grain bullet around 3,000 FPS and 140gr bullet at 3,000 FPS from a 16” barrel with a contract requirement of 10K to 12K barrel life. Sig is claiming they are getting close to the 15K mark.
