Where do y'all get your screens?
Where do y'all get your screens?
Shaman;
I sent you a private message with a link to the ones I bought.
I got mine on line from ASR Outdoors.
They sell stuff for gold panning sifting.
I got the 6 sifter set.
The 8 sifter set can be used , but is a little larger on two of them that can be used , but not that often.

We as a group, were warned sometime back by the Admin (#1) no posting of links or pushing sales on the Evil Bay. Not sure the reason, but I try to abide by the rules. Just sent the page link to Shaman, and came back on to see if he got it, and to delete my post, but will leave it as is. Actually it sounds like LAGS and I have the same screens. Mine came from the non mentionable place. For $53 out the door. haha
Lots of places on the web to order them. Make sure you get them all the same size so you can stack them and making screening your powder easier. You jest have to make frames for them

Wait, no URLs. OK I guess that nips spam in the bud. But, I hope you're joking about "non mentionable" sites.
I was going to say where i got mine but i guess its against the rules. I did buy some powder at Sportsmans Warehouse. I guess thats ok to say.

This was quite sometime back, and I was the poster of the link. I was told not to do it, and haven't, since. If you have any questions, you can message the Admin. @ #1. I have seen other posts of links to things on Amazon etc. I don't know if it was just an Ebay thing, or the reason why. I was told not to, and just have not. There may be something specific in the rules that I violated, on that particular post. And I think it's okay to say where you bought something, but not to post a link. And I THINK that may be considered a pay advertising thing, or something legal along that line. I would like to find that page and read what I was actually told, but it would be easier to just contact the Admin. ha

Im sure there are better ways to screen powder but its what i have for now and works for me. You need to screen powder out side or it gets BP dust every where.

I use to screen powder with homemade screens like that when I first started.
Now my screens are much smaller so I have room to store them easier since I have so much stuff.
I know what you are talking about i have sooo much stuff in my little shop its pathetic but every thing has a use or so i think. If you throw things away two days later you need it right. I try too keep my BP making stuff in a tote with all the screens and the grain grinder and a few other odds and ends. I need a bigger shop so i can full it up with more stuff.

Based on your kind suggestions, I managed to order a #10,#16, and #20 gold pan sifters off Amazon. I already have a #40 from another project.
Many thanks.
This is for a Pedersoli Brown Bess. It ain't real picky on what goes down it. I figure anything that gets caught by the #20 is the target size. That which gets caught by the #40 is primer. Anything that gets caught by the #10 gets crushed. Anything that gets caught by the #16 will go in my Hawken.
I tested a small bit of the powder this AM. Dang! This stuff is energetic.
This is how I fixed up my screens. I only use 3F so I make do with just a #20 and a #40. I made like-size 1" deep wooden frames for both of the stainless steel screens that i ordered and placed a few dowels in one so that they index together securely.
Would be simple enough to add and stack other size screen frames to collect 2f or 4F. But what I end up with at the #40 is close enough to 3F to suite my revolvers and my .32 cal. rifle. A mixture with some slightly larger than 3F I suppose, but close enough. I think some charts show 2F being caught at #30 screens and 3F being caught at #50 or something similar. Proper size is not all that important to me as long as it is consistent and close enough to work for me.
For match shooting, one might need a bit more definite size to get more uniform velocity, but I will never see a need for that.

I use sifters from the baking section of local grocery store. Not going to be to spec but cheap and works. I get powder that looks like 2f-3f ish. Courser stuff I just push thru my course screen with a pestle and the fine stuff the passes my fine screen goes back to the pucking stage. I only need the 2f-3f stuff. I screened some Goex with my sifters and it is improved with less fines. I don't see any point in other granulations than my 2f-3f stuff. Maybe I should call it 2.5f
