    Reminton 700 stock question

I was asked a question yesterday and didn't know the answer. But I told my friend I know where to go for the answer. Here is the question, what is the difference between rem 700 adl short action stock and rem 700 adl long action stock. Thanks for the help.

The distance between the screw holes, and length of the magazine inlet. Remington 700s come in two action lengths and the stock has to match or it won't fit.

Short action is for rounds such as the .223, 6.5 Creedmore, 7mm/08, .308 etc. Long action is for 25/06, 30/06, etc...

The same as all of the 700 series. Or as any other brand that offers chamberings in the different cartridges.
.308's OAL and shorter, the the .30-06 size lengths.
Rem. also has a magnum long action that is 'beefier' than the standard long action-
which might even have its own stock size..

The length of the opening in the receiver between the bolt face and the rear end of the barrel is different.
The bolts are also two different lengths also between the locking lugs and the handle
since the short action one doesn't have to travel as far to cycle.

About the only thing I know of that is interchangeable is the trigger group, ADL trigger guard,
butt pad, recoil lug, open sights, and barrel threads & blanks.
