If I have posted such information before, it shows just how bad I am loosing my mind!!
Reading tracks in books again, I am trying to put together the Primer Timeline for the Winchester 44-40 cartridges here:
https://sites.google.com/view/44winc...hester/primers
and in google docs here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=462843466
There should be at least eight different small primers used in early 44-40 small primer cartridge cases for normal and W.H.V. loads
1. Oval Small Primers
- Copper - no stamp
- Copper - W (over-lapping V)
- Copper - W (inside a circle)
- Copper - W
- Brass - no stamp
- Tin - W (over-lapping V
- Tin - W
- Nickle - no stamp
2. W.H.V. Loads
- Oval Small Primers
- Copper - no stamp
- Copper - W
- Copper - Large W with Serifs
At least lists two different large primers used in late 44-40 large primer cartridge cases for normal and W.H.V. loads
1. Oval Large Primers
- Nickle - no stamp
2. Flat Large Primers
- Nickle - no stamp
Any help with Winchester primer box dates, photos, primer photos, Patent data and photos would be greatly appreciated
