As a complete greenhorn to bullet lubes, what do you guys think of Jakes purple lube? It seems much easier to use than the Lyman Orange Magic I was using. I'm using It on handgun bullets only as I don't cast for rifle yet.

it's made from ceresin.
ceresin is mined.
it's mainly cut with parrafin.
i have used the purple with some success,it does take heat to flow, i'd say it's better than magma's lube.
it's touchy about the temp you run it through the sizer.
I'm no expert here by any stretch, I have used it in 30 cal. rifle in warmer weather (70* and up) and have had very good results after a few settling shots from a clean bore. It seems to shoot well the rest of the session which could be 75 rounds or more.

I've been lubing rifle boolits (except for my .45-70s and .38-55s) with Jake's ceresin products for several years. Started with 'purple' and found it okay up to around 1700-1800 fps. A couple years ago, switched to the 'scarlet' and, currently, am running some loads over 2100 fps with no problems or complaints.
if you're loading only for handgun calibers, you might want to consider trying a batch of *45/45/10*. I'm using it on RNFP .44s loaded to just over 1250 fps in my 1894 Marlin without a hint of leading.

I have used this for a number of years, and am down to 5 sticks. I went to order some more but he is no longer in business. I tried some lube from someone else, but not liking the results. What have you found as a good replacement for Jake's Purple? I tried a Carnuba Red but the cases are a little tacky near the bullet after I seated the bullet.
Does anyone have some Jake's Purple that they are willing to part with? Send me a PM if you do.
All the best!

Damn! I love ceresin purple... Been using it for years..... Like Bruce says, Who else makes a similar lube? I usually lube first with Ceresin and overcoat with BLL. ANd I've only got a few sticks left, as well!
