    Need an 81 Vetterli load

I need some load data for an 1881 Swiss Vetterli using smokeless power. I have 20 cases and 100 365gr pure lead paper patched bullets (RCBS 416-350) sized at .426 ,without the patch they are .416. The grooves are .426 and lands at .412, the cases are reformed 8mm Lebel at 39.35mm(1.55 inches), I have chamber cast my rifle and the throat is .437 at 2.20 from the top of the rim. I see many people are using 22gr of 4198 with a bullet from 250gr to 335gr, can I use this load with a 365gr. Would that be IMR 4198 or H4198. I also have A5744, A2400, H4198, IMR3031, SR4756. One other note, the cases are not fire formed

    uhjohnson,

I would suggest you go to the Swiss Vetterli site for the best information on loading that rifle.

I'll check my load book out in the shop and update this post shortly.

    Have Fun,

    JCherry

I have been using a Lyman 446110 bullet (350 gr) sized down for my rifle (a 69/71 model) with a load of 31 gr of 3031. My velocities were just a bit over 1300 fps with and without paper patch. The Swiss site has many more load references you can find. Proceed carefully, I have not seen any reference to any bullet as heavy as what you are using.
