35 rem, what mold to buy ? and from who?

I heard good things about the RCBS 200grain (and copy's) I would like to get a mold but from who? and should it be GC? or PB? I have two Marlin 336`s with micro grove. I am going to use the gun for deer. best regards Frank

My 336A likes that boolit gas checked ,very accurate to 200yds and have heard no complaints from bambi

NOE, Accurate or the original. Doesn't matter because they all work. I have the NOE clone and it's great. I have a modified version from Accurate and it doesn't work that well. But it is a modified design so this isn't surprising. Oh yeah, you can get PB and GC in the same block from NOE. Now that I think about I'm pretty sure I have a clone from Mihec as well. It's one of the ones I haven't used yet.

Just bought the NOE clone of the 35-200 awhile back, NOE's re-run of the Ranch Dog 359-190 showed up the other day. I've had very good luck with the Lee mfg RD mould but a couple of the cavities hang up a bit....or at least that's the excuse I'm using to upgrade to the NOE mould. The RD has a bigger meplat for better smackdown but the RCBS is no slouch either, just haven't field-tested it for myself yet.

Don't forget the new Lee 200 gr mold if you don't want to spend too much. A friend gave me a few to try the other day and they look really good although I haven't shot them. They look pretty close to the rcbs in design.

I've been casting samples of this mold if anyone else would like to try them. Don't personally have a use for it yet so I'm gathering opinions on rifles before I buy. PB lee 358-200. PM me if interested.

Way back in the 1970's I started loading 35 Remington cartridges for my uncle, who had but one deer rifle--an early Marlin. A co-worker (a metallurgist at the company I worked for, and an avid caster-reloader) persuaded me to try some boolits, cast from Lyman roundnose mold (358315). I selected a modest load from a Speer manual for a jacketed 200 grain bullet, and headed for the range. To my astonishment, my first 50 yard group settled into a nice, 3-shot cloverleaf. Several years, later, after getting more cast-boolit savvy, I bought an RCBS 200 grain flatnose mold, and my results were the same--cloverleafs at 50 yards. I seem to recall using either 3031 or Winchester 748 powder. Since those days, I've had great luck with 35 Remington and either the RCBS or Lyman molds. Don't know anything about the new Lee mold, but I suspect from what others have been saying, one could expect having an easy time coming up with a good load for that boolit as well.

The 35-200 FN RCBS GC mold worked great in my 336. It fits the chamber great and is as accurate as I can shoot it. Great mold!

The Lyman 358315 , ranch dog 190 or the rcbs 200 or any of its clones . Any of those will do anything you would ask of it I've killed deer with the RD 190 and the 315 that I flat nosed both killed just as well as any jacketed load I've used . Another sleeper that ain't mentioned too much is the saeco 351 plain base or the 356 the gc version both 200 ish grs I had the 351 and shoots better than any of the others if I keep them below 1400 fps .

you are correct Sir , it was the 356 that was 200 gr gc post has be edited .

The Lee bore riding portion matches quite well the pre-micro groove barrel and the SAAMI chamber dimensions distance from shoulder to the rifling.

I like the RCBS 35-200 5 holes in there. Did not see any difference with or without crimp I do not use a hard crimp.

I liked the RCBS clone from Lee although it casts too small. I then tried the MP 220gr HP version and have not looked back. Here is the loads and a few of the first success stories last season with them.

.............I do not have a Marlin or any other lever action in 35 Rem, but I do have a small ring Mauser I converted.





The heaviest boolit I've used was the Saeco #356 @ 200 grs (a GC design). I've also heard multiple times about the RCBS 200 gr slug and the good work it also performed. A 200 gr 35 cal slug @ 2200 fps MV is nothing to be taken lightly at woods ranges. I believe it is a better cartridge then the 30-30 when used at similar ranges. An added benefit was it's "Anti-Varmint" potential. When we lived in the tooles and had horses, we also had ground squirrels. Of course you ALWAYS have the 22RF. I'd worked up an excellent load for my 1903A1 Springfield with the 113gr Lee FNGC. It was a heller, lemme tell ya. But that SR Mauser (or a Marlin lever gun) in 35 Rem with 148gr WC's with a center body hit would give you 2 Ground squirrels The front half, and the back half!
