    .32 Ballard Extra Long

Has anyone made 32 Ballard Extra Long? I've got some .25-20 Single Shot basic brass that should be a good starting point. I'm wondering if anyone else has made it.

I haven't made Extra Longs, but I routinely cut off my mouth cracked .25-20 SS shells to make .32 Long Rifle shells for my Ballard and Winchester rifles. This shell is longer than the .32 Long so it can be used with the hollowbase Inside Lubricated bullet. The head and rim diameters are perfect fits in my chambers.

If the mouth is undamaged, the .25-20 SS shell should be long enough to be trimmed back to Ballard Extra Long length. The Basic Brass should be even better as you won't have to blow out the case mouth.

Thanks Bent Ramrod. Yesterday I cut down 10 cases to 1.150", for use in a #2 Remington rolling block. These chamber with no other modifications needed. I'll be shooting these with heel bullets. I need to fireform them next. I'm really pleased with this brass. It's much easier than making cases from 327 Federal Magnum.

Its Jamison/Captech 25-20 SS basic brass. Its perfect for .32 rimfire and equivalent centerfire cases. It has a .316" body diameter. Here is the short and long of it I made up just for fun. It goes from L to R, 32 extra short, 32 short, 32 long, 32 extra long, 32 extra, extra long and 32 extra, extra, extra long. The last two are fantasy, but shows what can be done

I see a lot of potential in that .32 extra, extra, extra long! If I was being charged by an enraged woodchuck, needed a certain one-shot stop, and could have my choice of any ancient or modern cartridge, that one would be the one I'd pick!

It is tempting to ream out the chamber and see what that 32 XXXL can do!

Don't waste all the time reforming from .25-20SS brass. Just go buy some .327 Federal and you've got the case. It's nearly identical to the original .32 Ballard XL, and it's what I've been using since the .327 came out.

I've used 327 mag brass, but it's a lot more work. It needs to be swaged down and a little more turned off the base in a lathe in order to chamber in my rifles. I've made quite a few cases this way. But I've found that the 25-20 SS brass just needs to be cut to length, ream the case mouthto .299" and go. Much easier for me.

Have made .33's rather than .32's, for the 1892 French 8mm.
Veral at LBT made the mold about '91 or so.
