    Type 99 Wood Refinish

Here are my results using stain and shellac. It shines less in person. It was an authentic match compared to original internal color spots. I have to admit I never thought it would minic urushi this close.Click image for larger version.

What kind of stain did you use? I have one some one tried to carve their initials on. Can't think of a good way to fix it. Did you use any wood filler on yours? I'd be happy if mine looked half as good as yours.

I used shellac and mohagony stain. No wood filler or sanding used.

dead dog . .. maybe those initials in yours were put there by the GI that brought it back? All part of the history of the rifle?

I think a child did it, there was not a firing pin in the bolt. Looks like he used a dull screw driver for a chisel. I got a firing pin and still only have 65 dollars in it so I guess did okay.

ID:	155702I would say you did a pretty good job on matching the finish to original.

This is my untouched 1942 vintage 21st series Kokura for comparison.

    Well done!
