    Post heat treat cleaning

Have had pretty good luck using the lathe and various grits of sandpaper....but how do you guys clean the threads really well??? I am thinking a dremel and a small wire wheel. I have tried wire brushes but might need something a little more aggressive. How do you guys clean up your heat treated steel?

If you coat the parts with silver solder flux before heat treating you will be able to clean them up with a toothbrush and hot soapy water. It prevents exposure to oxygen in the atmosphere and the oxidation that comes with it.

Course wire wheel in hand drill turning opposite direction of the turning part in lathe followed by scotch bright works well.

I use both of these before HT http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-to...prod23076.aspx

I have not used this brand http://www.metalcoatingsandlubricant...compounds.html but the two above have worked well for me.
