35 Whelen with Pat Marlins plain based checks

I have recently become enthralled with the 35 Whelen and am rapidly moving from "I want" to "I need." I currently have one of Pat Marlins 35cal PB check makers.

Before I jump headlong into a new cartridge and the obligatory new molds, I was just wondering if any one has used plain based gas checks on full house 35 Whelen loads and if so, whether results were good.

    Thanks.

I'll add my 2 cents... I'm a huge fan of 35 rifle calibers, and specially my 358 Winchesters, but all of my rifle molds are gas check shank, and never tried a PB personally for 35 cal rifle. But I see no reason at all why they would not perform well.

    Please keep us posted...!

I never tried pb check bullets in my Whelen when I had it, but I can say without reservation that pb check bullets work great in 35 Remington sized cases.

I'm thinking this is exactly another reason to buy a 35 whelen.

    For science!

BTW: Pat, what's the highest velocity that you've heard of your pb checks getting pushed to?

PS I'm loving the 5 check makers that I've bought from you.

Thanks for the compliments. I think thats a great reason to buy a whelen..!

I've got to go back and look at my range data. Been awhile. Joining a new range this fall, and will be taking my girlfriend shooting, so we'll get back at it.

Try a .35 Brown-Whelen. I drive a 225 grain Nosler Partition Jacket 2800 fps from mine and once broke both an elk's front legs with a single shot.

I applaud your willingness to make such a great sacrifice so that others may benefit from what you may learn! Remember tho, that all great men of science always have a "control" to compare to, so maybe you should buy two rifles (another great sacrifice) to make sure you test results are correct.

    Just trying to help,

    Jackpine
