I'm still not buying the humidity factor. I've cast and then PC'ed in my garage with the door open and a fan blowing all while it's raining. Just give it some muscle and don't over do the BB's and powder. Too much powder and it will cake up on you. And I live in SE Georgia so yes it's humid enough on a regular.
Disclaimer: Reloading and casting I only look at cents/round and ignore any other costs
I live in South West, Ga. You just gotta put a little stank on it!!
I use square-ish containers and they work. Banger is dead on when he says you have to do the vertical thud.
Many ways to skin a cat, I reckon!

OK update. The container is a #5 container. Here's a pic of the first run:
Picking up some NSAF shortly and some hemostats if I can find them
OP - as you can see from this little thread, there are MANY variables and "unknowns" as to why and why not BBDT works for some and not for others!
I really think is is how you hold your mouth and the phase of the moon! HA...ha!
I and others will recommend to just play around with all the variables and find what works for you. I played around for over 5 months until I figured out how to get BBDT to work to my satisfaction. Now it is a no brainer.....shimmy-shimmy-coco-bop! Works!
Hang in there.
And don't forget that vertical up & down action at the end as Love Life pointed out. (the coco-bop part!). I even do it while taking boolits out if I see some have bumped and have divots in the coating. A couple seconds of it does it!

You can TRY the fish hook remover long nose thingys they sell at Walmart. Not as delicate as hemos but may work. Better than needlenose due to better control.
OK gave it another shot this afternoon with results very similar to my first run. Despite the bullets being coated to what I would guess is twice as thick as the first run, the finish looks almost identical. I'm beginning to believe its the cheap HF powder causing the issues. There was enough of a coating on them before baking that I was worried about it being too thick! You couldn't even see the lube grooves or the shoulder on the bullets before baking!
My third batch was a complete and total bust. I was tinkering with dissolving the powder in acetone and coating them by shaking/rolling them in the mix that was about the consistency of thick paint. I let them dry a few mins then tried "flashing" the acetone. Couldn't get a flame and they were dry to the touch so into the oven they went. After they baked, they had bubbles in the finish where the remaining acetone must have gassed off. The finish was also VERY brittle! That method didn't work!
Got another batch running right now and should be ready to place on the pan and bake tomorrow. Basically I used the rest of the acetone/powder mix and thinned it down. Put the mix with some bullets in a container and have it spinning on a dryer motor I use for drying fly's and fishing rods. I'm curious to see what they do as the acetone slowly evaporates. It'll either look good or be a total clump of crud. Either way its a fun experiment!
My next try I'm going to do the same thing as the one above but use the bb's and do it dry!
Then maybe preheating the bullets before coating.
I've got plenty of time and trying different things with this is fun!
I have always got bad coverage on the boolits with the BB tumble/shake method if I clean them with ANY solvent.
When I tumble/shake them straight from casting they cover very well, even after waiting a few days after casting.
Just my $0.02 worth.

Just staying at home and playing with multi-color boolits.
Has anybody tried "waving the dead chicken head over it" method? Maybe "live" would be better. I can't wait for the results!
Only powder coat boolits cast on days that end with the letter Y
The 3 people a man must be able to trust completely are his gunsmith his doctor & his preacher ..,his gunsmith for his short term health ,his doctor for long term health ,and his preacher incase one of the others mess up.
You gotta get the essentials........
First, you need to be playing a record (real vinyl) of Iron Butterfly.
Then, you light an incense garden. (your favorite flavor will do)
Then you channel up some spirits on your weird Great-Aunt Thelma's Oiuja board.....
And ask them to help you as you apply the tools of your craft,
and shake like mad..... and if everything lines up perfectly....
You get:
Bright red boolits!!!
KE4GWE - - - - - - Colt 1860, it just feels right.
