    Contender Frame -Blued or painted?

Got a Contender (1978) with 14 in Hunter. "Bubba"Attachment 126736 had worked his magic by trying to reblue the barrel(Cold blue) Frame has mark on it ( see pic. ) Looks like pain chip. Is it?

No idea, but in EITHER case, I'd be stripping it and rust bluing it anyways.

I have no idea what is happening with yours. Mine is blued. That does look like a candidate for rust blueing. Good Luck.

Only my opinion, but that to me that is definitely not a paint chip. Notice the "tail" of the cougar is well defined and sharp. I don't think there is any paint on your receiver, as the detail on the engraving is sharp and clean, it looks like bluing to me. Looks like a casting fault, or maybe "bubba" let a drop of vinegar get on the area. Vinegar will remove bluing, and many use it to strip off the bluing before re bluing.

Another thought, some people have something in their chemical make-up that when they leave a finger print on a blued firearm, the finger print will cause rust or corrosion very rapidly if not removed. I had a friend that was like that. If he even touched brass cases it would begin to corrode them.

In picking up my Contender just now, I notice that a person's thumb would rest in the same location as on your problem area. Just a thought!

Always have had problems rusting both guns & guitar strings, when I switched to a low-sodium diet didn't have the same problems.

I think you are right. Looks chemical. Not bad for a $149.00 gun. "Bubba" lowered the value but the gun is very accurate with 250 g Keith (Accurate Mold)

You could try hitting it with a little of the oxpho blue and see how it comes out. It might not be that bad if you are going to use the gun that is. I have one that is a little beat up and I do not mind that on this one as it goes for walks in the woods with me alot.

I would have jumped all over that for that price.

Bubba could have sprayed and baked a ceramic coat on the frame and barrel.

If I could find one with the value lowered like that, I'd have to buy it. That's my kind of price.
