Meh-play is the correct French pronunciation, but it gets pronounced correctly about as much as sabot. (say-bow, as in the letter O)
Me-plat and meh-plat, while both incorrect pronunciations, are both common lexicon.

If you hadn't brought it up, I would have never known anybody even thought about it. lol

I say "mep Lat" with the enunciation on the second syllable.
"May Plat" is the correct southern pronunciation. Nothing else matters.
