would it be worth trying to PP a 312 lee boolit w grease groves to shoot out of a 323 (8MM) barrel?

you're gonna have .011 to make up with paper. 16# paper might be a good choice @ .0032" thick

That will work fine. Two wraps of green bar computer paper, lube with whatever is handy, and push it through a .324 die and go shooting. If your alloy is BNH 14.5 to 15.5 you will be able to work up to full power loads. This alloy works great to about 3000 and makes a great hunting bullet.
