SWMBO - She Who Must Be Obeyed (wife) (just to fill in some missing data from above post)

Minister of Finance - See: SWMBO

And just for the sake of putting it somewhere (this looked like a good place) the Finnish ammo manufacturer, Lapua, is pronounced lah-pwah, NOT la-POO-ah, as most shooters do. I asked the two Finnish guys manning the Lapua (lah-pwah) booth at the NRA convention because I thought they'd know. I trust them.

Somehow I'm afraid all you have accomplished is to reinforce what I found out some time ago. Most people will continue to mispronounce the name. By the way, the pronunciation that I read was the same sound but the writer wrote it "lop wah". Maybe not exactly the same but close enough for me.

When I was a kid my mother was a teacher. She would not abide mispronunciation of anything. We wore out several dictionaries. I still catch myself proofreading every post for spelling and punctuation. I forget which forum it was, but one poster wrote a long paragraph without a single capital letter or punctuation. The next poster took him to task for making it so difficult to read. The OP admitted he was in a hurry. I think lack of typing skill is responsible for most problems. I'm lucky that I am a fair typist. My wife won't use email because she can't type.

Rant off! Sorry for the hijack.

    alamogunr,

"lop wah" "lah-pwah", certainly homophones. Can you smell the dictionary pages smoking across the country?
