From what I've read most but the "last ditch" guns do. It's a nice feature to have for sure. I don't think any of my other milsurps have one. I shoot lead almost exclusively so I don't have to worry too much about shooting out a barrel. I really don't think I'll shoot this one anyway. Only 21,000 or so made.

You may not be able shoot it but you sure can take shots of it - and post them for us to enjoy! Thanks for the photo's and good on your acquisition. The gun gods surely smiled down on you. With a big smile!

i'd shoot it, its not a virgin so shooting with care will do no harm to the gun or its value.

You have a $3500 rifle there my friend! Paras are rare, with a dust cover; even rarer But with the AA arms intact, it is almost unheard of! Congrats on a very rare and very fine collector piece! And yes, I had one once upon a time and sold it! How I wish I still had it. And I shot it too. It created a real sensation on the range.

I'll take it.....wait, this isn't for sale is it? I'd love to have one but would also shoot 10-50 rounds through it just to say: "Ya I shot it". I'd get it appraised and document for insurance purposes. Nice.

There is no reason not to shoot it.
Shooting it will not harm it.
I also collect Japanese, and from what I see, I would value it as is, in the $2600 to $3000 range on today's market.

Now this is a Joke, so do not get wound up.
Get yourself a gray dirty blanket, place the rifle on it and retake your pictures.
Then place it on Gun Broker, start with a $3000 reserve.
You will likely get $5000 for it. :<))

    That is a inside joke.
Check out the Japanese Collector Forum at www.gunboards.com if you want to read up on Mr. Gray Blanket.

Hmm. So what is a normal 99 with mum intact, wire bipod, original sling (hard as rock!), AA arms
and dust cover, at least very good condition worth these days? Nice shooter in my view, but I don't know much
about the market in these guns.

Nice trade there. I would shoot it if it was mine.
I recently gathered 3 of the type 99s and now have an almost complete military correct gun. I use 8 X 57 brass and it works very well. Full length size and load. All 3 of my bores are around .313" to .314" but in very good shape. The chrome lining worked great.
