    Lyman 450

Age old question, is there an easy way to get your current lube stick out of a 450 and replace with another type or do you have to melt it out? I solved part of this problem a year ago since I was using a lot of SPG lube and just got a new 4500 for that but the lube in the 450 is CR and I want to take it out.

The trusty old heat gun is the only effective way I've found so far.

I removed the size die and all other lower parts first. I then kept working the wrench on the back till lube was coming out the sizer die area. I would collect it and work the wrench some more repeating these steps till the pressure nut in the back bottomed out. Then I backed it back up and out and used a heat gun to be sure I had got all the lube out.Robert

just remove all the parts down to the casting

Use a hair dryer on high and you will have 90% out in 5 minutes.

It takes a while to drain the rest off of the surfaces.
You might turn over a garbage can lid, put a black trash bag in the lid and stand the casting upside down.
Heat it again with the hair dryer and leave it in the summer sun the rest of the day.
