    First Cast - Shoot

This is a follow up to my original first cast post:

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...707-First-Cast

I made it out Saturday to the range to fire my first cast bullets. It was a tough day for shooting as it was 93 degrees F with 90% humidity so it was struggle to keep my hands dry enough to grip the pistol. Overall I was pleased with the accuracy of bullets as well as the function. The 230 gr RN performed flawlessly. I did have some feeding issues with the 200 gr SWCs, I think I need to seat them just a little deeper. The last round in the mag kept failing to go into lockup. Here are some pics of the loaded SWC rounds and some targets from my shoot. Definitely not my best effort, but it is what is.

I loaded a batch of the 200 gr SWCs with 5.0 gr of Titegroup and a batch with 5.2 gr of Titegroup. The 5.0 batch performed much better than the 5.2 as I couldn't hold the gun as tight as I wanted so I had to readjust my grip a lot with the 5.2 batch.

The RN bullets shot very well, despite my ability to place them on target!! It was a fun day shooting despite going through a roll of paper towels!

Some dirty gun porn! (phone pic, not the greatest)

Looks like you had some great range time! Conggats! I like the looks of those rounds - I haven't tried PC yet but somewhere down the line I will - old dogs can learn new tricks! LOL Great looking handgun too! Those grips are really nice!

Looking good....Keep on keepin on! On seating the wadcutters you want just a tiny bit (1/32 inch or less)) of the leading shoulder of the boolit protruding past the case edge. I can't tell exactly how deep your's are seated from the photo, try seating them just a bit deeper.
You got this casting and reloading thing by the tail on a downhill drag!

I seat mine until just a tiny part of the band is still showing. IIRC, my OAL is about 1.225 to 1.230 for the Lee 200gr SWC otherwise I get a good bit of feeding issues and not going fully into battery.

Thanks fella's. I had read that 1/32 before, I need to seat just a little more. I really like the nice clean holes they make.

DW a great gun, my friend has one and from Creedmore I shot a 1/2" group of 5 at 50 yards with it.
But like all of his guns, he never brings the same loads and he has no idea what boolit or load shot that good so I am sorry I can't tell you.
He does the same with the SRH I sold him. I told him the loads but he always comes with different.
But it doesn't matter anyway, he can't hit a deer. I seen him poke the center out of a deer target from the ladder stand but a live deer almost gives him an attack.
I have never shot a better 1911, even Kimber, etc. I told him to write down what he had but he forgot. How I wish I had something to share.

I am quite fond of the Dan Wesson line....

I put together some more colors last night and I dropped the OAL down to 1.22". That should get them runnin smooth.

2 of them are blemished models, you would be surprised at how much cheaper they are.

I found mine at Whitakers Guns in Owensborro, KY. I see them on gunbroker from Osage County Guns a lot as well. Whitaker's always has great prices.
