I'm not sure the pot they're using looks too safe for this project - they must have put some serious heat to it! Worth a couple minutes to watch. http://digg.com/video/what-you-get-w...to-an-ant-hill

God gave us music that we might pray without words
I wonder if 50# of Lymans #2 would do the same thing??? Just sayin'.

Education is one thing you can give away freely while suffering no personal loss and likely increasing one's own knowledge.
Properly vetted source information prevents GIGO, the scourge of the internet.
That's fantastic!
I wonder if Bill Murray would try that with a gopher colony
He might need a little more than one pot.
Scientists and "bug guys" have used this technique of "casting" ant colonies for years. The BIG ones in Africa are HUGE and totally amazing.
Nature is amazing. I do not like fire ants!
banger
Did you see the price that he is getting for these on ebay. He has one up right now and it has 27 bids for $2700.00!!!!
We're in the wrong end of casting.
I have seen these things made before.
if you think I'm gonna go out and find a ant hill [no problem actually] then melt down a bunch of my alloy and pour it down that hole then dig a hole to the bottom of that just to get my lead back.
What happens if you pour it down an uncle hill.....
I've seen it done with termite mounds in Africa or Australia with cement. It was huge! IIRC, it was like 50' by 20' by 20', or some crazy size like that.

Who tries to take my gun
Now that's just really neat! Can't help but think of the bunny huggin granola crunchers sayin "Just think of all the ants that had to give there lives for a pice of art"
As he was pouring, I thought: What a huge waste of time and precious metal!
I changed my mind when he delivered the finished product!
That ain't a bad return on his investment even at the 2.7K level!!!

Lead would be too heavy for something like that. Besides aluminum is everywhere.

Wow, $2,700, that's just unbelievable. Need to melt up some aluminum, certainly no shortage of fire ant hills to pour it into around here.
Pretty cool. I have a lot of fire ant hills the guy can cast in if he wants to.
If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.

I saw that video the other day. I thought the end result was pretty cool. I did wonder how much metal he was gonna have to pour down the hole.
