not sure if i did a bad thing

well last night i got a set of dyes from a member on the board. well like a 5 year old getting a new toy i went out to the garage. well i started looking around for my tube of case lube. well no luck i couldn't find it. i got a set of 7mm mags so i needed the case lube. well remembering many posts on using pam i went to the kicten cabet and looked no luck there. so i told the wife we needed more. well after thinking a bit a seen a small bottle of olive oil sitting up there. so i said what the hell and tried it. to my surprise it worked really well. do you all think that there was anything bad my doing this. thanks all for your inputs.

The only 'bad thing' is sticking a case in the die, which can
be a pain in the butt to get out. If you didn't stick a case,
should be no problem, other than the urge to sprinkle a
little parmesian cheese on the cases and nibble. . .

Not sure if olive oil drys like vegetable oil, but you might be careful of leaving it in the dies for a long time. If I get too thick of a coating on my cast iron pans, it is a bugger to get out. It gets thick like partially set glue.

As the chief garage man at our place, I HATE olive oil. I don't want to pour grease in the drains, so put all bacon grease, meat drippings, etc. in a can in the icebox. All grease turns solid except olive oil. That tells me that you can easily wipe it out of dies because it never will solidify. (I have to wipe olive oil out of the pans with paper towels, then burn the paper towels in the fireplace.)

That grease make a great flux. I stopped using Marvelux, It rusted my cast iron pots(Brownells says it won't, not true). Beeswax is good, but expensive, I used to use bacon grease until someone put a bug in my head, that there might be some salt remaining in it. Now, I buy lard in the supermarket, comes in 1lb. bars like butter. The fumes, even if burned off with a match, leave a coating that protects the pots.

    Thanks Morgan,
(Hit the wrong key again) I've been concerned about the rust in my pots, as well. Will try the lard solution.
