I've had my eye on an old Winchester 32-40 mold and it got me wondering.....
What's the oldest mold you still regularly use? and...for what gun?

I've replaced and went custom so non of mine are very old. A few years now......maybe.
I have a matched pair of H&G #39 (158 rn) 4 cav San Diego molds and a San Diego #50 4 cav so that puts them prior to about the mid 60's. All are still in use by me especially the 158 RN. It's an extremely accurate bullet that I shoot by the thousands. Bullets literally fall out of the mold when opened and culls are rare. Those molds really spoil a fellow!

A non-vented, single-cavity Ideal 308291, at least from the '50s, perhaps older.
A vented, two-cavity Ideal 266469, from the '60s.

My oldest mould is a Lyman 0.690" round ball mould I bought used about 40 years ago.
Ive two 5 digit Lyman RB moulds a 360 and a 454. IG 45366 (the correct no.escape me at the moment.)
Also a couple of 70s vintage Lyman Maxi's 45,50. The 54 Maxi is newer.

Ideal 311-291.
Don't know how old but it sure casts sweet.
Ideal 358 439. It drops the sweetest little 156 grain hollow points.

It's the same with stupid.
I have a Winchester copy of the Lyman 311008 in a single cavity. I have no idea how old it is.

There is no 'right' that requires me to work for you or you to work for me!
I have an Ideal 360344 single cavity that has no vent lines. My friend in Texas likes it for armadillo duty from his S&W in .38 S&W (not Special). Thank goodness he doesn't shoot a lot. Casting with a single cavity is trying after you get used to 4 and 6 cavity molds. Not "used to", but probably more like "spoilt by".
Either my 311-291 SC from the 40's-50's, or my 3C Cramer 16H from 50's would be my oldest molds that ever see use. I had a pre-war 2C Modern Bond copy of the 358-311 design, but it wandered off somewheres.

I just got to use two Winchester molds from the 1800's! They were from a local museum. One a 32cal and one a 38cal. Both lever gun molds. Pretty cool stuff!
I have a Ideal 358477 that has a channeled sprue plate that gets regular use . I don't know if it's older than the Cramer thirty caliber hollow point though , probably in the same era both make great bullets .

I have Ideal 319247 and 31952 moulds that are the style with the handles cast onto the blocks (or vice versa) that I used when I first started shooting 32-40s (and for some time thereafter) and would not feel seriously hindered if I were to go back to using these and a couple of other equally old moulds. If they are still in good shape, they will cast good bullets regardless of age. I really don't think they wear out!
