Russian SKS -- saving for posterity

It's like an old, rusty car. Purchased for its potential, lots of hard work can really transform it. It's a 1954r Tula, ruined and neglected. A bit rusty, pits under the barrel and gas tube, been ridden hard and put away wet. Bore is actually the best I've had on an SKS so far. So that was comforting -- inside is all beautiful. Mechanically, it seems perfect. I've got A LOT to get it back to where it SHOULD be, and to make it look hopefully more presentable. Guy wanted $189 for her, but I gave $165. So here is where the project starts:

As I received her. Heaven help me make her beautiful again.

Blue is nearly gone, what's left is 'swirly'. I have no idea if this has ever been arsenal refinished or not.

Typical. 'Bubba' couldn't figure out how to remove the top handguard, so I believe this one is original. Could be wrong, though.

Everything matches. Pity the stock is gone forever.

Crown is fine -- bore (not shown) is actually excellent.

Rusty bits here and there. Peep sight now in place.

Wish me luck! I may draw upon you guys for parts sources, etc. I've got a big project in front of me.
