Which boolit is best for the k-31

I just recently bought my first k-31 rifle. It is my understanding the short throat of the K31 is designed specifically for a long ogive bullet like the standard Swiss GP11.

    Best for what?
    Best J-word?
    Best cast?

I have the NOE K-31 and haven't fooled with it much but the first loads I tried were 2MOA and fed very well.

Uh, the the thread header stated boolit, I assumed if one hung around here at Cast Boolits, that would indicate to them it is not a J-word, but I was obviously wrong.

I got good results with the RCBS 30/180 fngc in several K-31. I loaded ammo for a friend and he harvested his moose with it.

That's kinda gonna depend upon the condition of your barrel. My pre-war (1937) K-31 has just enough throat erosion to chamber a Lee 309-200 bore-rider without slamming the bolt and shoots that boolit quite well, holding consistent 2-3 MOA (issue sights). On the other hand, the bolt of a buddy's 1952-vintage rifle...with a 'pristine' bore and chamber...won't lock up on my ammo.

The lyman 165 SW worked great in one of my k31's (the one I sold) but in the other with a tighter throat it saves a little lead off and leaves it around the case neck.

Mine loves the Ideal 308291/Lyman 311291. I've an RCBS 30-180-SP wait for its chance.

I have the Lyman 311291 so will be giving it a try. Do you size to .309"? Am I wrong for thinking the boolits will have to be seated pretty deep.

And thanks for the input from all you Guys, much appreciated.

I have not shot boolits too much in my K31, but I have had good results with the
    311413 at moderate velocities.

I size to .310", seat to lightly touch the rifling, the base is seated below the neck but the rifle doesn't know it.

I've tried different Lee molds but the 312-155 (7.62X39) with the pointy nose is dang accurate is my K31.

I concur, the Lee 312-155 gas checked to .309 is my bullet of choice for my `55 vintage K31.

I acquired a used Lee C309-170 mold from Flea Bay a while ago. I have just started working up loads for my K31 with it, and it seems to do fine with that boolit. It is a little fussy about chambering, so seating depth is critical. I size and install gas check with a .311 Lee sizer. Currently using converted military brass.

This is a lighter bullet, but I have had good luck with it. At lower speeds it shoots to the right 6 inches or so at 100 yards. Ended up putting a scope on it. Have not tried it past 1700fps which might correct some of the POI issues compared to FMJ.

RCBS 2-Cavity Bullet Mold 7.62mm-130-SPL 7.62 mm , 30 Caliber (309 Diameter) 130 Grain Spitzer Point Gas Check.

    I size it to .308.

On my K31 the Lee 312-155 has to be seated so deep it scares me! They work great in the 1911's - but the K31 won't close on them. I have better luck with the NOE K31 and to a bit the RCBS SIL.

The NOE shoots reminds me of the "soup can" - it shoots well in anything I try.
