Dripping Lee production pot IV

Hi all,

New guy here.

I have an older Lee produciton pot.

To be honest I have not used it very much over the past 6 years that I've had it, maybe less than 10 times.

THe last 2-3 times i've used it, I've noticed it's dripping. What is odd, is it's not dripping from the bottom of the spout, but right next to it.

I do notice that when I twist the poor rod I can sometimes get it to stop, and when I do a poor it comes out very slowly.

Does it sound like I just need a cleaning? if so what's the best way to do that?

While hot empty it 100%
Turn it opside down and tap/rattle the S*** out of it.
When cold you can remove the plunger.
Use a cordless to spin it while polishing with corase steelwoll.
Put a pointed pin inot your cordless and spin some steelwoll into the inside of the spout.

It will last a loooong time.

If it drips again incert a 90deg bent pianowire into the spout from the bottom while raising the handle. That'll clear crud and "renew" flow.

I'venozzled to photos so you can see how was dripping from the side and not for the center in nozle. Is this normal?

call/email Lee and show them those pictures, i wonder if your pot is cracked. otherwise take it apart completely and check for cracks in the pot.


did you by chance ever run the put while it was empty or very close to empty?

I've had my old lee pot for years now and it reminds me of the toilet that won't stop running after a flush until you jiggle the handle a little......
I've just put up with it but it is a pain sometimes.

They all will leak uncontrollably but most just from the spout, yours is pooched, it's a Lee "failsafe" feature.

I dont know about the older one but I got one last year that did what you describe out of the box. After having it empty 20 lbs of allow all over the place, I took some time to look at it. Turns out that the spout is held scured to the pot by a nut that thread on the outside of the spout. It was loose and let alloy flow around it. May be worth a look. Since then, no drips at all even from the spout.

The 10# pot can develop a leak around the spout.
It's pressed into the pot liner and sometimes it comes loose.
Most often when someone gets tired of the thing leaking, and hits the rod a few times.

It's a PIA to fix.
Better to just order a new liner from LEE for about $8 and toss the old one.

Thanks guys, The inner pot came in yesterday. I managed to get the old one off. Any tricks to getting the new one in? Pictures say 1000 words

same way you got the old one out? what i found the most difficult was getting the heating element out of the aluminum shell! i had to cut some of the aluminum away.

remove the 4 screws holding the liner to it's the outer cover,
remove the rod, actuating lever and hardware,
remove the base.
remove the screws holding the cover on the pot bottom,
remove the rear support top (has the temp control in it).
take the back half of the rear support loose.
remove the wires from the heating element.
remove the nuts from the heating element mounting bolts.
remove the 2 screws that hold the rear support to the outer cover.
remove the heating element from the rear support.
use your fingers to spread the heating element open so it will slip over the liner.
remove liner.

< to remove heating element:
slip mounting nuts off the elements ends, element comes out the bottom of outer shell.
(you May need to file the wire connections of the element to get the nuts off and/or twist them gently to fit through the cover )>

reverse to reassemble.

I wish I had those instructions to begin with. I did it the hard way and just took the top 4 screws, and the bottom 3 off and tapped it out. It was bottoming on the coil when I tried to put it back in.

I need to post pictures of the old liner to get everyones feedback on what might have happened. it's extremly odd. Lee wanted me to send back the old unit so they can replace the inner pot. Labor was free but I still had to pay for s/h both ways + the pot. This way was quicker and cheaper.
