    Winchester model 94 changes

Anyone up to speed on the history changes to the Model 94?

I was looking at one of my dad's guns recently. It's a M 94 angle eject of mid to late 80's vintage (SN in the 5.2M range). It has a rebounding hammer, but no crossbolt safety or tang safety. I was under the impression that rebounding hammers and crossbolt safeties were introduced at the same time. Evidently not.

No they first went to the angle eject and the rebounding hammer. Then added the cross bolt safety. Then some of the last ones made had a tang safety in liu of the the cross bolt one.

Here's an AE time line that should help:

    Winchester 94 AE

    Rebounding hammer introduced 1981
    Angle Eject introduced 1983
.45 Colt Trapper model introduced 1985
Hammers drilled and tapped for offset extension introduced 1986
Bull barrels introduced for Trappers 1991
Link pin retaining screw returns in 1991
    Cross bolt safety introduced 1992
    Tang safety introduced 2004
    Mdl 94, 70 and 1300 discontinued March 2006

    Hope this helps some.

Missed Joe's response earlier. Was gone on vacation that week. Sorry.

I would also like to thank you for that timeline. It was very helpful.
