Anyone have an idea what the usual amerimax .014 alloy is? I am in the middle of a deal on 250 lbs of .014 strip slit to .500. The alloy is 3003 with a h12? temper? You think this would form good checks?

Is there a way to get a few of the strips and try them to be certain that it will work ?

Yeah thats what I looking at now. I think this will work out. It would be a pain to have 250lbs of check material that was unusable though...
Amerimax has a PDF which shows which product measures what. I bought a roll that was 6" x 50' which cost less than $20 after taxes. According to their PDF the material can be purchased at .0078, .0092, .014, and .0167 thick. I cut mine into strips for my CheckMaker using a paper cutter from Harbor Freight. Since I have several checkmakers I would have to buy different rolls at different widths. A roll would be convenient but I'm content with cutting my strips. I have to cut soda cans into strips anyway so no biggy. Frank
Randy, 3003 is lithographic grade aluminium h12 denotes that the temper is half hard,perfect for checks,amerimax coil is made from 5000 alloy which is much harder. ianOriginally Posted by arjacobson

I'm new to check-making and have two of Pat's check-makers. I was wondering what the best material (regardless of cost) would be to make checks. My thoughts are copper is the answer but am unsure...Thanks

I am in the middle of automating a punch press to run checks. I have already done thousands of checks using the paper cutter method. 30k last month alone through various sources. What I am looking for is no cutting/self feeding check material. I have made many checkmakers and have figured out how to get them to run pretty good without jamming up. My new tooling(checkmakers) will allow me to run 30 cal and 35cal at the same time using the same feeder. The main hole size on both calibers is close enough to allow me to run them together. Even running the press with a foot pedal is MUCH fast than the arbor press if you can believe that. Going to be a great winter project!
