Here is waht I have come up with so far with the ski plugs. Mine must be a different mfg as they seem to look more rounded then pointed at the tip like the purple ones Duke posted.

They are soft and my ejection pin is .093 so mine are a bit more blunt then algun posted.

Bullet is .224 of course at 57 grains. Looks like I'm going to have to find some better ski plugs. Mine where not connected but came in a 500 count bag.

I may have been able to apply a bit more pressure to actually swage the plastic a bit more but my die needs a good polish as it was easy to deform the tip when I applied to much pressure.

    Looking good guys.

Brian, did you already have those, or did they come from one of the sources mentioned above?

Just wondering because if those are "too soft" and were just purchased from one of the referenced sources, then it's likely that anyone finding this thread, and ordering some will have the same issues.

Nope! I got mine atleast a year ago, maybe two, but it was from the same sight you mentioned. Where did you get yours? They look more pointed.

I don't think they are too soft. Just need to polish my die a bit.

There was a guy selling them in the strips last year on FleaBay. I bought one strip to see how they would go. The guy selling them isn't around any more, so that source is gone. And, it's kind of off season for the ski industry here in the States.

Maybe some additional sources will show up in the Fall.

Do they make the ski plugs in different sizes? I've seen a lot of .224" bullets shown. Would they make a fatter one that would fit the nose of/make a 44 or 45 bullet?

Down near the center of my "Things I eventually want to build" list is a project for a mold configured to make my own Silicone bullet tips.

Since it's still pretty far down on my list of thing to do, that gives me some time to look into the type of silicone or urethane or some other satisfactory substance with which to mold these little plugs out of.

I just don't see it being any more complicated than casting lead bullets; and if I make a set of mold blocks for my 44 hollow points I know I can make them for my 30 caliber hollow points as well.

With the combined knowledge base here on this forum, I don't know why no one else has attempted this already.

If I get time, I'll post my cad drawings for this type of "Synthetic Bullet Tip" mold.

should be able to search the cast boolit side of the sight. Think they have played with casting hot glue bullets. Imagine a .312 cast glue bullet would make a good flex tip for a 44 or 45.

Have you ever tried these in a VLD with lead tipping die? did you ever notice spring back?
