    Idiot Scratch?

    Hi All.

Now I think I've seen it all. While surfing around the web I fell upon a website that sells something I can't believe folks actually buy! It's called the Idiot Scratch Prevention Tool. It's basically a small piece of either poster board, or mylar (depending on which version you buy) that protects the finish on the frame of semi-autos around the slide stop, so that when reassembling your gun you don't scratch it's frame. Their website is:

    http://www.idiotscratch.com/index.shtml

Do people actually spend money to buy something like this? Or is this just another way to separate a fool from his/her money? If I was that concerned about protecting the frame of my gun, I would just makeup something like this myself, I can't imagine actually spending money to buy one or more of these.

So what do you think? Is this a serious product? Would you buy it? Am I the idiot for thinking this product is stupid?

I must be an idiot because my frame is scratched from just that!
I view it as a bitof a badge of honor, it mean I actually shoot and clean my handgun! No mall ninja here, I don't just have into show of to my buddies. Yep, I actually shoot the thing.

What is the old saying- A fool and his money are soon parted? I see stuff in the stores all the time that just make me shake my head. But that's the beauty of the capitalist system in this nation- you have the freedom to market something absolutely inane (think "Pet Rocks"!!!!) and stand a chance to make a zillion bucks off people who think they need one. I inherited most of my FILs tools. I've got every "AS SEEN ON TV!!!" tool they ever made now. Most of them don't even work, but they sold and fed someones family.

Back a decade or two, I did some IPSC shooting.
A few shooters had "race" guns with a few thousand dollars invested in them.
having about every aftermarket goodie available, including fancy finishes.
I suspect they'd be a good customer for this.

$8.99 for one made out of posterboard!

Anybody who can't make one of these themselves out of an old playing card or plastic soda bottle isn't someone who should be disassembling (or owning for that matter) a firearm!

Some people will buy anything. This is, after all, the same country that bought tag protectors for Beanie Babies......

More importantly, who gets their panties all ruffled over a scratch on the gun? It's a TOOL...it's the same as guys with pickup trucks where the bed is all waxed and perfect looking.

Being as how I do not own afirearm of this type, I was wondering if the Formica samples that you can get at Lowe's and Home Depot for free are too thick?

Saw the video on how to use this "absolutely must have" tool, and it's useless on my race gun. Naturaly I have a custom mag release button, as I would assume "everyone" would have. What ever will I do???? How will I install my slide stop............oh woe is me, what will my freinds think????
Yup like Bret said, just another pet rock..

And 'mood' rings, chia pets, and the list goes on. The best ones are the carburetor pin wheel and bicycle pulse jet motor. Remember those .035 pin-fire pistols? Shot phono needles great.

Don't knock pet rocks. Here are some advantages:

They are easy to take care of
It doesn't cost anything to feed them
    They don't poop or pee
    They don't smell
    They need minimal attention
You can put them in a closet for months and they won't mind
They won't wake you up while you are sleeping
    They are cheap
Even in a "no pets" apartment building, the pet rock is the only pet you can have
You don't have to take them to the vet

I saw, on another webiste, a very minor modification we can make to avoid the idiot scratch. Just take a very small rat tail file and make a small groove in the slide stop - to ride on the detent ball, on the way in. Works great, and not even noticable. If you didn't point it out to somebody, they'd never see it. enjoy Mike

Learn how to put the slide stop in and spend the money on primers.
