Hello, I looking for a load for a 300 gr Bullet, for my 38-55 Win. I don't use Gas Check but it's a lead cast weelweight bullet. I use hodgdon powder. I appreciate if you have it.
Regards
Jean Mario

G'Day Mr. Mario
If you go to the match results forum and click on the current match being run by 123dieselbenz you will see some pictures posted of targets fired with a 38/55 using 300gn boolits. These are cast of 50/50 ww/lead and are plain base, no gas check.
The target with the smallest 10 shot 100 yard group at about 1.4" was fired using Hodgdens Varget.
The info is on the target. Please note that these boolits are breach seated so if using fixed ammo with boolits seated in the case pressure will be higher depending on the amount of case volume taken up by the boolit.

I use AA5744 with 325 gr bullets seated to the lands. 18.5 gr has been my best load. I've used 4198 also. It's not bad, but I keep going back to the 5744. I'm not sure what Hogdon has that's similar to 5744. They're sure to have a rifle powder on the fast side that might work. Of course there's always black powder .
