    Chamber cast substitutes?

I once found this recipe (perhaps on this forum) for mixing a substance for chamber casting.

    2 oz. Sulfur
    3 oz. Powdered Lampblack
    3 drops oil of Camphor

As I'm not exactly sure where to procure "powdered lampblack" and "oil of camphor"
does anyone have experience with substitutes?

I tried this with straight sulfur once, and was lucky to get the plug out of the chamber - it had stuck so hard... (even though the chamber had been lubed) I suspect the lampblack helps in that regard.

Pick up some Cerrosafe, it's easy to use, or reuse, has a low melting temp., available through Brownells, Midway and Rotometals.

There are 2 different formulas on this site,
One calls for 2 parts sulfur and 1 part powdered graphite.
The second calls for 3 parts sulfur and 1 part powdered graphite.

Use caution when heating the ingredients, as the sulfur will catch fire easily and the fumes are toxic.
Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it.
