    .50 Hushpuppy

We got the .50 hushpuppy completed. we are surpassing both 500 s&w and .500 beowulf balistics in a 17" barrel. it is on a short action M70. I am currently making a custom floor plate that will allow it to take ar-15 mags with the 500gr cast and the 500 and 300 gr woodleighs. the 650gr api will just have to be fired single shot but its worth it! at 100 yards all the above loads were moa and very close to the same poi. as soon as i get it to take ar mags ill post the pics.
    300 gr bullet @ 2300
500gr i just load with 14gr of trail boss at 1050fps for when i get the form 1 back.
    650gr api at 1400fps.
    once again a 17" barrel.
    this makes me happy..............

It'll handle any .510 projectiles, and its based off of the WSM's so itll handle almost twice the pressure of the Beowulf. You'll see what im talking about as soon as i can get some pics up. its got .005" more taper than the Beowulf so it pops right out of AR mags (holds 13 in a 30)

That looks like same concept at BWE's "50 thumper"

much better than the .500 PHANTOM made out of expensive / elusive 500 Jeffery brass.

Can you put a picture up of your round with a 223 for comparison?

7.62x39, .300 whisper, and the .50 Hush Puppy, and for you Cactus Farmer, the .50 setting nicely in some ar mags.
That rifle is a little nicer than mine, I hate to admit it but its true.

Theres also a thread in this forum about another .50 wildcat we made out of RUM cases. its titled "Just finished my .510 wildcat!!!!!" It has ALOT more power than this one, however we intended this one for use with a suppressor so any velocity over the speed of sound was not desired, and the fact that it fits in a short action is nice.

Pretty cool concept. are you going to try to see how far out it is accurate?

Its got about the same ballistics (a little better) as a 50-70 so there is some data on its trajectory, but I cant help to test a rounds limits once I get it in my paws. I'll post results as I get them. As of now the farthest ive grouped is 100 yrds and was pleasantly surprised, as i always have been with McGowan barrels.

And, for the betterment of the group, dont buy a knoxx comp stock unless you're scope has some really really good eye relief.

7wsm, it was on clearance last week, in the 50-75% off section. its back up to 31.00/50 now but still cheaper than most 50 wildcats.

You could use any of the WSM family of cases though - right?

you could but they wouldnt headspace. 7mm is .04 or so longer than the rest so people wouldnt chamber it in .270s. I doubt you get any extra performance with that litte extra length, but i already had a 7wsm and lots of brass. I didnt find out about the length difference untill after the gun was finished.

Don't you just blow out the case then trim to length?

no i cut it off right at the shoulder (1.7") i messed around with blowing the neck out first, but there was more hassel involved and cutting at the shoulder gave us a better wall thickness for headspacing. im sure if i tinkered with it, it could be done without much trouble, but i didnt really need the extra length as we have a longer version based on the rum. i start out with the 7 mm brass as is and trim it on a lathe. we just use a collet with a stop in it so the brass stops the same place consistanly so you dont have to move the apron on the lathe. it makes for a faster setup. awsome car by the way, what is that?
