    Savage 340A

Just got one of these today. It came with a 3-9X32 scope on the Weaver side mount. It's about 85+%. It is in 30-30. Paid $200 OTD. I think I did good. Pre 68 (no serial #)

I think you did good. Mine wears a receiver sight and ran me $35 less 10 years ago.

I like 340s. They shoot and carry at least as good as they are ugly.

Oh, and mine likes Walmart ammo.
People sometimes tell me they dont own guns because guns are too expensive. I tell them guns dont cost anything. They are essentially another form of currency.

Just cleaned it out/off. Very dusty. It did not like the Lee 312-185. I guess too long. I loaded up some RCBS 180-308s and seated them to my lever gun depth and they functioned just fine. Look forward to shooting this gun.

Mine (with a receiver sight) loves the Lee C-309-170-FP. It purrs with several loads, but might prefer 16 of 2400 best.

Well, of COURSE! It averages almost exactly 1900 fps. I do fit them with a GC. I use either LLA or JPW as lube, swirled and dried.

Scope is trashed. Sights are good though. The heavy bullet isn't a good fit I don't think. I am gonna try a 160gr. The rate of twist is 1 in 12, so I think a lighter bullet is in order. The RCBS bullet is about 192gr. with Check and lube. I have the 160gr. Lee bullet mold and I de-checked one side. It shoots real good out of the lever gun (one at a time) with 6gr. Red Dot. I'll give it a shot.
