How well does the 311466 shoot

Now, I've played with almost all of the Louverin designs and especially the .30s.

The 311465 shoots well for me in the .30/30, .30 Carbine and .30/06. The 311467 shoots well in the .30/06.

I have never been able to get the 311466 to shoot up to the standards that I thought it should.

Anyone have any experiences where it shoots "barn burning" groups./beagle

Back when I had a contender , the barrel was the "30-20" . I don't remember the load but it was mild and it would drop them all into one hole at twenty-five yards .

A little more of what I remember that might help you was my Remington 788 in 30-30 with the 311466 , LEE alox , a gascheck and near seven grains of 700-X . Not a fast load but it dumps them into one hole at thirty yards when you find the powder charge . I also set the bullet out to touch the rifling and it keeps the gas check at the base of the neck .

I haven't shot this bullet fast for a very long time so I don't remember them at all , sorry .

I really like my 2 molds and I shoot it in a Handi-rifle 7.62x39. I was going to post how good they shoot but I believe your accuracy standard might exceed mine John. I also like it out of the '06 around 16-1800 fps. Mine has a Douglas bbl and I don't remember the twist rate.

I've been having accuracy issues lately with my Ruger 77 in .308 Win. Yesterday I decided to load up some heat treated 311466's that I had on hand. These mic .311 on the driving bands.

Previously I have tried 19.5g to 21.5g of 2400 and the RCBS 30-150 @.309 and Saeco 8 weight from 3:1(ww:lino) alloy is 161g,. The gun or shooter, shot terribly with about 6 to 8 inch spreads and all over the paper at 100 yds. After readin Ben's recent post, I decided that perhaps, among other things, my charges were too high. So....I loaded the 311466's with 17.5g, the same load but different boolit that Ben used. I also thought that perhaps my boolits at .309 were too small. We'll see what happens this coming week as these are shot...stay tuned in John!

I have had extensive experience with the 311466. I used it for shooting the 200 yard standing and rapid fire for highpower competition with excellent results. X ring groups were no problem and common place. I shot a 30-06 (this was in the early 70's) and used 4831. The most important ingredient was a Dacron filler (approximately 1 grain). Hornady gas checks were used exclusively because they locked onto the base. I casted the bullets with virgin linotype and lubed them with 50/50 Alox mix. I also weighed all of the bullets to within 1 grain.

You will realize the same results if you really pay particular attention to the detail of the bullets and the weights. Make sure the you use the Dacron filler too with the Hornady gas checks. Oh, and the case necks have to be flaired perfectly to allow the entry of the bullets without any damage whatsoever.

Matt - Glad to see you here, I have several boxes of your boolits in my basement. Regarding the 311466 I have a mould 311466U which as I understand the U stands for undersized. I've yet to use it and wondered if anyone her has a similar mould.

I also have a 311467U. It shoots all right for me. Don't recall what it casts but it's not really that undersize./beagle

Suffice it to say that it was the design used to win the informal long-range match with the M1A at this year's Nevada Cast Bullet Shoot....five hits for five rounds, 14"x16" steel target at 415 yards, fired from sitting with iron sights and with semi-auto function.

Well, yesterday I took the Ruger 77 in .308 Win down to the range. It was hot and I didn't feel like setting up the chrono. I just wanted to see what the 311466 would do with 17.5g of 2400. First "group" of 5 shots at 100 yds was a little over 3". The second five shot group was 2.3".
Certainly nuthin to "write home about", but then I got worse groups with the 311291 and RcBS 30-150FN., also with 17.5g of 2400.

Bruce, would you care to share what your powder and charge were with your 311466?

I believe Bruce posted somewhere around here that it was 25.0/5744. I am planning to try it in my M1A, too.

I've had good luck with it in .308 with Unique at 1600 - 1700 fps, and in the 30-06 with 2400 up to 1900 - 2000 fps. Gonna try some 4895 for some 1900 - 2000 fps loads in my '06 next.

I've got my dads 4 cavity mold of this boolit, its one of my favorites to cast with. I would love the have a 311465 to go with it.

311466 sized .310 over 20.5 gr 5744 (no filler) will shoot 1 1/2" (or better) 100-yd groups all day out of my old Savage 340 bolt gun in .30-30.
