At the fleamarket today I found a pewter mug, quart size. In addition to the normal British hallmark stamps it is etched 44 Group RAF 1944. Under the etching is scratched 11 May 1945, which is 3 days after VE day. There are also at least 15 signatures scratched around the sides of the mug. Looks like it was well used before it was signed. 44 squadron was one of 2 British squadrons that was operational for the entire war and lost over 200 aircraft and nearly 1100 men.

Hopefully that memorial mug will stay intact. It would be a sin to melt it down.

Great find. I enjoy investigating things like this sometimes. Can you post pictures of the signatures, maybe they can be identified.
Bet there's somebody in the UK would like that in a museum !

Unfortunately I have spent the last hour trying to upload some photos without success. Keep getting a "failure to upload file". The names don't photograph well. I tried rubbing a bit of flour on them to up the contrast, but that didn't work very well either. I will keep working on reading the names. A few were easier to read, they were:

It was probably gifted to the crew or was the crew that delivered Liberators to the RAF.
Try holding a piece of paper over a name and then lightly rubbing the paper with a pencil.

For posting pics on this and other sites, I found that adjusting your camera to the 1mg pixel setting is what works.

Contact the RAF for help? Wonderful treasure, sir, good luck getting it back where it belongs!
I use Jasc Paint Shop Pro. Load all pictures there and save as a JPEG and never had a problem uploading to this site. I am also doing this from a computer and not a phone.
A vote for anyone other then the conservative candidates is a vote for the liberal candidates.
