Question Lee 240 swc tl ??

I shoot 44 mag and have had a love affair with the Redding/saeco 240 SWCpb for years. I have recently started powder coating and am thinking of getting two of the Lees 6 cav 44swctl to beef up production. Buuuut the front driving band looks kind of thin for full magnum loads 7:1 ww foundry type . Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...Buck

It may be just me, the boolit is TL and has 8 (bands) I haven't had any problems with it but then again, I don't feel the need to shoot +P, (I no longer hunt) I shoot the lightest accurate load I can find

I've got pretty decent groups with it with really light (.44 Russian-light .44 Special) loads.Anything hotter and groups just get bigger.Maybe other barrels like it better hotter

I've run that Lee TL430-240SWC to about 1200 fps with no problems. Good accuracy, no leading. I've never tried to go faster.

Thanks guys. It is somewhat mind blowing to me that Lee doesn't have a more conventional Keith bullet mold in 44 240 plain base .

The Lee bullet works in 4 of my 5, 44 Magnums. When seating and crimping, it's not necessary to use the uppermost groove. I have roll crimped in the third groove and tried the 4th groove on occasion. I dip lubed and pan lubed with C-Red, but haven't PCed any yet.

The TL design will work better for 44 special velocities. Going up to 44 magnum and the driving bands, although there are eight they are not quite wide enough to get a good grip.
If you are wanting to go magnum loads I would get a conventional lube type bullet with wide driving bands and regular lubricating groove(s) . Elmer Keith had some good reasons for the way he designed his SWC's for the 44 Magnum.

I found NOE makes nice Keith reproductions in 357 , 41 and 44 magnum .
    I got a Keith Signature mould for my 41 magnum , it's a work of art .

THANKS! Probably just get a second Saeco mold and run two four cavities.
