44 mag Red hawk with a 429-421 over 22 grains of 2400. That is over-kill for the dinky deer where I hunt.
Unfortunately,Rumor has it that we are going unleaded this year, which, if true, will put the kibosh on Handgun hunting in California. Most nonlead projectiles are unlawful under federal laws designed to prevent AP pistol rounds. Supposedly Hornady has a bullet that is both lawful and unleaded, but I haven't seen it. I may end up out of state.

    Hi...

I have used several different .44mag revolvers for deer hunting here in Pennsylvania, although not recently. Where I hunt has a lot of open blueberry flats and swampland and the shots tend to be long, so I have mostly used a bolt-action 7mmMag in recent years.

If I use a handgun this year, it will either be my SBH Hunter in .45Colt or my Dan Wesson .375SuperMag.

Well, for decades, I've used a T/C Contender in 7x30 waters. I use the Nosler Ballistic tip bullets, 150 grn weight. Over 100 whitetails, an elk & other critters have fallen with one shot from this.
I have also carried a 45 Colt cal Ruger OM Blackhawk with a hand cast Miha 265 grn Penta HP for deer.

All of these have worked. All 429421 solid or hp. Hp is 50/50 acww pb. 18.5 of 2400, 22.0 of 4227, and currently 22.0 of H110/296. Never recovered a boolit. Shots from 30 to 65 yards.

Water dropped COWW (I get the COWW alloy from jetsfan-24) and enough 4227 to get this bullet up to a muzzle velocity of 1500fps out of a 454 Casull BFR.
