this is the set of rat tooth tweezers (Amazon $9 and change-delivered) I bought to pick up my PC boolits with. Works like a charm especially with hollowpoints...just stick one prong in the "snout" pick up and set it on it's butt on the foil.

I always go down to CS and sift through all their "removed from service" surgical tools. I have more "junk" "odd" stainless tools than carters got liver pills. I can't describe the tool I use to pluck mine from the powder coat, but they'd make a great torture device.

It's only redneck because you used tape. If you had soldered or brazed the tacks on there, everyone would be congratulating you for your engineering.

Or even better, if you had drilled holes through the jaws of the pliers and fitted pins in there instead... Not sure how difficult it would be to drill through the jaws of a pair of pliers, but I just tried to drill a 1/16" hole in a stainless steel ladle and broke 3 bits.

If you have a problem with the tape use electrical shrink tubing.

If you use the shrink tubing that has a sealant it will not move once you shrink it.

You lost all credibility by not using duct tape.

I lobe the idea and tape work, use what's on hand to make do.or go without, I am going to.right now shamelessly steal your idea and make a pair. My powder from smoke just got here I have the day off and its raining so to the barn to powder coat and steal an improvised tool idea I go. Thanks.

It really would be much better if there were holes in the ends of the pliers and the tac went through from the back and only protruded a very small bit. (just enough that the coated boolit doesn't touch the jaws of the pliers when the boolit is gripped)
It does work this way, but it can be improved by cutting the tacks off about half length and resharpening. With them full length, it does spread the handles of the pliers a little farther than is comfortable if you are going to do a lot of boolits.

I sharpened both ends of a 6" length of coat hanger wire and did a little bending.Click image for larger version.

'Just back from the test lab...... and I couldn't find any thumbtacks this morning but I whipped this together to show how an extension and the tacks on the outside would allow the pliers to close much more comfortably. 'Matter of fact.... if this were carried out the the final (and more sturdy/compact) design, it would easily allow the folks who want to reclaim their powder from ESPC to spray and then transfer the boolits to a clean sheet without messing up the powdercoat at all. While curing, the coating will flow over such small pinholes without as much as a dimple. But it will make transfer from the Coolwhip bowl neater as well, once I find my thumbtacks and put a dab of JB-Weld on the popsicle sticks instead of the tape.
