    casting weekend in tx

Well guys, the heat of tx has finally died off for the moment. We are getting some of the cold air from canada and our temps went from nineties to 60's in a matter of hours. Now i can cast in the garage without occasionally dousing my head with cool water! I bet a lot of fellow texan casters will be on a casting marathon this weekend, i sure will.

Same thing here in Michigan. Mid 90s to 60s in the blink of an eye. All I heard the entire day in my head was the Teddy song, Phil bear. Maybe it was Fred bear but I get us mixed up.
Whatever, I'm taking a four day weekend with the chainsaw, pruners and some guns "up north".

I was just talking to my dad in the last week about that. We're both looking for cooler weather for casting.

Still hot and humid down here near Houston. The high over the next few days will be in either the upper 80Fs or lower 90Fs since it will be raining a bit. The lows at night will be in the upper 70Fs. The humidity will be high, so it will not be comfortable at night or during the day. There's a lot of things that this area has going for it, but nice weather is not one of them.

By direct orders from Al (global warming) Gore summer was cancelled this year.

Winter finally left in June, one 90 day in July and 0 in August.

I hope it cools off here. I don't think I have cast anything since March. I cast like a madman all winter though. (Well..... what "winter" we have in South AL)

Our monsoon is about over, although the remnants of a couple of Pacific hurricanes doused us pretty good. At least caught us up on rainfall, as we were WAY down. And I haven't cast or smelted in months, with weather & med problems hopefully behind for a while, anyway. Time to alloy up some stuff!

I tell my riders that, Yes, it does get hot here - the highest temperature ever recorded in Tucson was 117* - and there is good news, and bad news. The good news is - I wasn't here! The bad news is - I was in Phoenix, where the temp was 122*!)

I may go sort wheel weights later, too nice a day to waste cleaning house. Bathroom really did need a good scrubbing and kitchen is next. I scored some pork fat last night so I'm making sausage with the last of my venison tonight. May fire up the casting pot tomorrow but will probably wait, have a new mould due this next week or two. Yard will probably be dry enough to mow by then and it really does need it.

I cast and coat outside. Temps great for it right now, the rain and humidity however kind of dampen your desires to do so.

Yup! Time to cast. Scored a Saeco four cavity #377 09-122-TCBB for a good price. I suspect it will drop closer to 125 grains as my two Saeco 09-122-RNBB both drop 125 grains with the alloy I use for my H&G #275 09-125-SWCBB and #309 09-125-TCPB. Both H&G six cavity molds drop 125/126 grains boolits.
How's that hope and change working for you?

In the 60s Saturday! Cancelled other plans and set up the casting rigs. First casting since early March. It was going splendidly until I broke into the new alloy ingots. Rotometals is replacing the bad alloy, which is superb customer service since I bought this alloy in February. Anyway, I have shiny new bullets for this weekend's schuetzen match and Al Gore will just have to peddle his Global Warming lie somewhere else. Wonder if he pays himself for the carbon offsets to fly his jet around?

That is the great part about living in New Hampshire - the summers are in the mid 80's, with a few days in the low 90's. Every once in a while it will hit mid 90's.
There are not too many days that it is too hot to cast or smelt. Fall is definitely casting time as is winter in the casting shed. Fire up the heater and go to it. A few manic casting sessions and I am all set for much of the coming year. Last session I cast some 5000 9mm's for the subguns.
The winters are not exactly warm here, but the wood stove keeps it warm and toasty. We heat the house with wood with propane forced hot water as a backup only.
I don't know how people can live with that kind of heat. The longest year of my life was spent at Fort Gordon GA. I swear it was 100 degrees with 100% humidity every day from May to September.

Fort Gordon, did that for several years. Still not quite as humid as houston, but close. If you get back out there, not sure when you were there, check out the range at the sportsmans club that opened about 12 years ago. Friend of mine is the prez, sent me pics of it when it opened, MUCH nicer than the old one. Almost worth a week long road trip to go shoot on it.
