    Sources for tin?

I've got some "experienced" shot that I'd like to use, not for reloading but for casting bullets. I'd guess they contain lead and antimony, but no tin, so tin (preferably cheap tin) is what I'm after for a 9:1 alloy.
Bar solder isn't cheap, nor is any solder I've looked at locally, and I've looked for tin flashing but so far, no luck!
So I was wondering what my other options are? Metal scrappers in my town only buy and then ship it all off to the PRC

Yard sale and thrift store pewter.

User jsizemore is selling already scrounged, smelted and ingoted pewter in the Swapin and Sellin forum right now for prices far more attractive than any virgin solder or tin from Rotometals or your local supply houses.

radiator repair shops, ask for 'drippings'. I usually pay about $1/lb, its messy stuff with a lot of **** in it, I end up skimming off about 30% of the weight in junk.

There is no such thing as "cheap" tin! It has become very expensive over the past several years.
I used to buy it in 1# ingots as a kid at my local hobby store to cast "tin solders". I paid about $.15-.20 each for those!

The above sources are good. I have found pewter is almost impossible to find unless you spend all your waking hours in GoodWill and other junk stores. And then they charge a ton for it.

    Good luck on your quest.

Check for other local metal recyclers, sometimes bar solder or rolls of solder come in there and can be purchased at scrap prices. Might have to drive a bit but might find something good for a 30 minute drive.

Might want to read this thread and be ready to pounce on any pewter you find at a garage sale or thrift/antique mall http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...-and-hallmarks I recently found a pewter cup at an antique "mall" for $3.50 weight about 14 oz. it would have made about 8 lbs of your 9-1 or for a price compare if added to 1.5 lbs of lead would have been equal to a little over 2 lbs of 30% Sn solder. So cheaper but still not cheap.

If you can find it at garage sales there is a chance to talk them down on price. Read the thread on pewter lots of information there.
