Annealing question

What is the ideal temperture when annealing case necks? I have always used the dark room system but will be purchasing an auto annealer and want to use templiq. There seems to be a wide range of opinions on the matter. Some say 660 degrees, others 700 degrees and one annealer manufacturer says 750-800. There seems to be no rock solid formula.

The way I do it is free and easy. Just keep the machine going fast enough that your flame does not change from blue to orange.

This video shows too long of a dwell time.



This is what you want. Blue flame the whole time uniform color around the neck and a case that is cool enough to hold right after.

Jmorris, I have been over that site several times but it still doesnt give me anything rock solid. Your method makes sense because the flame color change should be the zinc burning out. Still both leave me a bit leary. This is to be a commerical adventure and I want my customers happy. Maybe I will go with templiq say 450 degree for the head, 750 and 800 degree for the neck. I am thinking melt the 750 and leave the 800 unchanged. That should put me in the ideal window. I think.

i use 750 tempilak and it melts just before the flame changes color as in .5 seconds or there abouts. i put it on the inside of the case neck.
